Choose To Be Great: Edition 12

This morning, Facebook reminded me that I wrote this last year: “You are more than your worst mistakes and you are less than your greatest accolades.”

As an Educator, especially as a someone who leads a building or district, it’s easy to get sucked into the highs and lows of our days, months, years, and careers. I can still remember a big mistake I made at the beginning of last school year…have you ever tried to send something out to the entire staff but sent it to the entire student body instead? Yikes! That’s what I did! I also remember the first year our school finished in the top 10% of the state in academic growth. It felt amazing and I was so proud of the work of my students and teachers.

The reality, though, is somewhere in the middle. Right now, some of you are in the midst of a dark low. Others are celebrating major achievements. In both cases, let me offer a reminder – the sun always rises and sets. The goal is to continue doing the work of educating students as best we can despite the sunrises and sunsets. It’s a choice we must be conscientious about every single day.

Thanks for what you do. As the email from CKH said this morning, “We see you.”

Choose to be Great!
