Choose To Be Great: Edition 3

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

This morning, I’m writing to a very specific portion of the leaders I know. For most of you, this weekend represents the first three-day weekend of the year. Depending on who you are, it’s an opportunity to get some extra rest or do some extra work. Some of you took extra time on Saturday or Sunday to spend time with family or to do something for yourselves. Others of you plan to take that rest today.

But, there’s another group of people reading this, and they are the ones I’m writing to today. This is the group who worked most of the day on Saturday, most of the day yesterday, and are up early on Monday morning, ready to put in another day of work before getting back to the business of school for the rest of the week. If this is you, allow me a humble request: Stop. Close the computer list, shut the planner, or put the to-do list away. Now, go do something that brings you joy. I know this is hard for you; but, it’s necessary.

One of the most important aspects of your job as a leader is to pour into those you have the responsibility of leading – and you can’t pour from an empty cup. If you’re running on empty, you owe it to yourself, as well as the staff who needs you to be 100% tomorrow morning, to spend some time filling your cup today.

Have a fantastic week, my friends!

Choose to be Great!
